Materials Science and Mining Symposium
You are cordially invited to the 2009 Symposium on Materials Science and Mining. Materials Science is a fundamental pillar of the mining and mineral processing sectors. The goal of this symposium is to allow representatives of the mineral industry and academia to develop a dialogue about the various issues that relate to the understanding and application of mineral-derived materials and their properties, and to the application of emerging new materials for the benefit of the industry. Join us in this unique networking event that will provide both stimulating discussions in cutting-edge materials science, and opportunities to develop collaborations between researchers and the minerals industry. Together, we can be part of the innovation process that is, more than ever before, essential to sustain the competitive edge of this vital sector of the Canadian and World economy.
Call for presentations:
Academic Presentations. We invite academic researchers to submit abstracts of original research pertaining to all aspects of materials science focused in addressing important technological and environmental challenges faced by the mining/minerals industry. The research does not necessarily need to focus specifically on mining, although the outcomes of the research should demonstrate potential benefit to the mining industry. Examples of topics addressed in previous symposia included:
• Applications of nanotechnology to mineral processing and mine effluent treatment
• High performance polymeric materials and composites for mining applications
• Novel X-ray diffraction methods for quantitative ore body characterization
• Probing reactions at mineral interfaces using in-situ surface science techniques
Industry Presentations. We solicit representatives from the minerals industry and affiliated supply/services sectors to submit presentations highlighting the key technological or environmental needs and issues currently faced by their companies and by the mining/minerals industry as a whole. Presentations should especially focus on areas where significant knowledge or technology gaps exist, and where solutions might be found through productive collaborations with materials science experts.
Registration
Your registration fee includes access to both PTMSS and MSMS (Materials Science and Mining Symposium) sessions.
